Soundbeam
Soundbeam is a movement sensitive device. It can be described as a "virtual keyboard" with invisible notes laid out in the beam. When the beam is broken (by a hand, foot etc.) the notes sound in the order they were activated. Even the most gentle of movements, such as a slight lift of a finger, tongue or toe, can be adjusted so that it can be tailored to suit the individual. The equipment is fully recordable, giving users the opportunity to create their own CDs. The Soundbeam can be used by just one person or up to twelve with the use of sensors and switches. The content of the session is directed by the user and varies greatly due to the wide range of abilities. For instance some students have taken graded vocal exams, others have had the opportunity to perform in our concert. Group and one to one music makers may enjoy participating in some theme based songs with sound effects and props.
Vibroacoustic beanbag
Our new vibroacoustic beanbag has made for a more inclusive session for some of our music makers. Previously in the music room, we used vibroacoustics in a very basic manner by placing a hollow wooden box over a speaker amp. We had positive feedback from those who used it, and for those with hearing impairments and deafness, it bought a new aspect into their music making and appreciation.Video clip
