How snoezelen helps

Coined by two psychologists, snoezelen is a contraction of the Dutch words words for sniffing and dozing. The word evokes a vague, undefinable feeling of sensory well-being and has come to be commonly used to describe any multi-sensory room. The environment enhances quality of life for people with severe learning disabilities.

Trust and relaxation

At Worcester Snoezelen we create an atmosphere of trust and relaxation through pleasurable sensory experiences. This provides meaningful activity for people with severe learning disabilities free from the pressure to achieve. As a result, people who use the centre enjoy an enhanced quality of life.

Active response

When you enter our centre everything you see, hear, smell or touch is designed to stimulate an active response. This encourages a feeling of being in control of your own environment and being able to explore at your own pace.

Exciting and varied effects are created using projected images, fibre optics, bubble tubes, tactile objects and gentle music.
