Worcester Snoezelen's Royal Variety Performance

Royal Variety Show: Nov 20th saw our first Creative Arts Show, held within the University of Worcester Drama and Dance studios. A collection of Snoezelen artists work was proudly exhibited in a gallery while performers excitedly adorned their costumes back stage.

Our Royal Variety Evening was inspired by the variety of arts activities that have been developed over the past 2 years at Snoezelen.

The Snoezelen Dance troop, The Gamelan Players, Justine and Donna Cole's Stand Up Comedy Act and Rainbow Drama Club's 'Circ de Snoez' all gave stunning performances in front of a looki-likey Queen. The vibrant costumes, stage curtains, make up artist, and lights around the mirror all added an element of showbiz and star quality bling. Backstage was buzzing with anticipation. The other side of the curtain the audience filled with parents and supporters, nervously twitching in suspence of their loved one's performances. The performance begins and the audience relax, applaud, laugh and leave full of pride.

Having events like this gives people the opportunity to shine, creatively express themselves, feel pride in their achievements and have fun! Theres no business, like show business, like no business I know................................

'Celebration of the Arts Event'

Our ‘Celebration of the Arts’ Event, held on Saturday 29^th October was a huge success and proved to be a true celebration of all things inclusive and accessible, providing Snoezelen with the platform to showcase its extended services to a varied audience. During a series of live workshops, participants were encouraged to involve themselves however they chose. From sticking and gluing in arts and crafts to rocking it out with electric guitars and drums during Rock School, the atmosphere was fun-filled. Soundbeam music inspired movement and dance, whilst thespians took to the stage to have fun and get creative with costume and games. The day drew to a close with the beautiful sights and enchanting sounds of the Indonesian Arts. Puppetry and traditional music-making, referred to as ‘Gamelan’ took centre stage, allowing participants to be involved and perform to the remaining crowds. Yummy, home made filo parcels with deliciously aromatic fillings were enjoyed by many to create that authentic experience. This was a wonderful end to a fantastically creative day.

The main objectives were to encourage new visitors to Snoezelen, to celebrate the many talents of our current service users and to demonstrate the collaboration between Snoezelen and it’s community musicians and artists.

An exhibition of Arts and Crafts from Snoezelen’s talented artists took place which received excellent reviews. Friends, family and local press turned out for the occasion, providing artists and workshop leaders with a feeling of pride and great achievement. The work on display was a culmination of work produced by Snoezelen Artists over the past 12-18 months during individual art sessions and group workshops. In addition to this we held an Art Competition to encourage people to get creative. We had a fantastic response with many talented artists, unknown to Snoezelen previously for their artistic skills, putting their work forward for entry. The entries came from people of all ages and demonstrated a w ond erfully eclectic taste and artful expression.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that participated and supported us on the day and thank the dedicated staff and volunteers who made it happen. Here are some pictures of the day.......

Sounds Inclusive Workshops Just a reminder. 11.00 on Wednesdays at Worcester Snoezelen, we have our Sounds Inclusive Music Group. This has been a very popular recent addition to our music service. Anyone who loves music can come along and join the fun. £8 per person

The Birmingham Bupa Half Marathon!

Uni Snoezers and Snoezey runners have collectively helped to raise nearly £5000 for the Worcester Snoezelen!

26 people from the University of Worcester and the Worcester Snoezelen took to the streets of Birmingham braving the 13.1 mile course in order to raise much needed funds for the Worcester Snoezelen. The runners and walkers showed tremendous commitment and determination to complete the marathon. We would like to say a huge Thank you to everyone who took part or supported the event.

We are hoping to use some of the proceeds to replace some equipment in the centre. Is there anything you would particularly like to see/use in the multi-sensory rooms?
